In this Xs and Os breakdown, we are going to take a look at popular zone blitz that many football video game players have run over the years to bring pressure on the quarterback. The name of the of the zone defense is the 4-3 Over – Smoke Mid Zone.

The 4-3 Over – Smoke Mid Zone sends five defenders after the quarterback, while dropping 6 defenders in pass coverage. The defender that we look to get pressure with is the left outside linebacker.

To set the defense up, we take control of the strong safety and hot route him into QB Spy. We then move him up to line of scrimmage, so that he lines up in front of the right tackle.

By doing these pre-snap adjustments, this should allow the left outside linebacker to apply pressure on the quarterback.  Make sure once the ball is snapped, hold the right trigger or R2 button so that the right tackle keeps his focus on the strong safety.

The left outside linebacker shoots through the A Gap.  Once the left outside linebacker gets to line of scrimmage, we can drop the strong safety back in coverage.

The left outside linebacker gets to the quarterback for a sack.
