Here is another popular passing concept that we like to attack zone coverage. In this football video game tips breakdown, we use the play called I-Form Pro – Texas to show how we like to attack a Cover 3 defense by throwing to the fullback as he breaks across the short middle of the field on his angle route.

The I-Form Pro – Texas can be found in many playbooks in the game. The one that we use for this breakdown is out of the New Orleans playbook. Notice the the tight ends drive route is the plays primary route.

I-Form Pro – Texas

Receiver Symbol Pass Route
Split End X 8 Yard Out
Tight End A Drive
Flanker B 8 Yard Curl
Fullback Y Angle
Halfback LB Pass Block Left

For this breakdown, are primary receiver is going to be the fullback, who is running an angle route out of the backfield.

The defense called for this breakdown is 46 Normal – Cover 3, which is a base Cover 3 coverage.

The tight ends drive route will occupy the the left outside and middle linebacker at some point during the play. Notice both the left outside and middle linebacker drop back in hook zones.

Before we snap the ball, we hot route both the flanker and split end on streaks. We do this just in case our opponent has called Cover 2 zone coverage. These two hot routes, may help allow the the tight end to get open on his drive route.

In the image above, notice the left outside linebacker drops back to cover the tight end.

This allows the fullback work underneath the left outside linebacker and get open.

Once we see the fullback open, we throw him a hard bullet pass for a 10 yard pick up.

Final Thoughts

Consider subbing or packaging in a faster halfback in at the fullback position. Pretty much all 2nd string halfbacks are faster and have better hands that 1st string fullbacks in the game.
