I-Form Pro – 2 Play Combo

For this X’s O’s Filmroom breakdown, we want to show a two play combo from the I-Form Pro that we have been running with success this season. One play is a run play called Inside Zone. The other play is a play action play called PA Weak Flood.

Before, we get to showing the two plays, lets take a look at the I-Form Pro.

I-Form Pro Breakdown

Player Personnel (21):

• 1 HB
• 1 FB
• 2 WR
• 1 TE

Formation Alignment:

• 2×1

Formation Style:

• Base

Key Plays (Texans Playbook):

Has the two outside receiver’s running deep out routes. The tight end runs what we like to call a slant hook. Look for him as he curls up. Play is effective against both man and zone coverage.	This play is designed to attack zone coverage by flooding one side of the field. The plays primary receiver is the FL (B), who runs a dig route over the intermediate portion of the field.	A great play to call to beat bump-n-run man coverage as the flanker’s corner post route shakes off the man covering him.  If he is not open, the tight end, runs his route over the middle may also be open.

I-Form Pro 2 Play Combo

Below we look at two playbook combo from the out of the I-Form Pro  that can be found in the Texans playbook.

Inside Zone

The fist play we we show is a run play called I-Form Pro – Inside Zone.

The I-Form Pro – Inside Zone is designed to have the halfback follow the fullback through the 4 hole between the right guard and right tackle.

Coaching Points If Man Coverage Is Called:

• Follow the fullback though the 4 hole between the right guard and tackle.
• Look to inside towards the 2 hole as it may open up.

PA Weak Flood

The second play we show is a play action play called I-Form Pro – PA Weak Flood.

The I-Form Pro – PA Weak Flood is designed to flood the one side of the field with with 3 receivers. The plays primary receiver is the flanker (B) who runs a dig route. Against man coverage, he should be open as he breaks over middle. If zone coverage is called, look to see if the linebackers bite on the play fake. If they do, he should be open as he comes over the middle of field. The fullback (RB), is another option to look for he heads towards the flat.

Quick Set Up Vs Man Coverage:

• Hot route the SE (X) on a streak.
• Hot route the TE (A) on a streak.

Pass Reads Order Vs Man Coverage:

1. FL (B)
2. FB (RB)
3. TE (A)
4. SE (X)

Coaching Points:

• Against man coverage, look for the flanker just as goes towards the middle of the field.
• The flanker is not jammed at the line of scrimmage.
• If the defender covering the fullback bites on the play fake to the halfback, the fullback should be open in the flat.
• Consider hot route the split end on a slant if man coverage looks to be called to give yourself another option to throw to.
