In this Virtual Playbook breakdown we want to show a football play from the Singleback Ace Pair Twins is called PA Y Drag Wheel. This play has the tight end running a route that we like to attack zone coverage, but it takes time for him to get open.

sb-twin-te-slot-pa-y-drag-wheel The drag wheel route that ss run by the TE1 (A) is pretty effective, but it takes him to get open. Therefore, he normally is not an option to throw to unless ball is thrown to him before he breaks up the field. Instead the receiver that we like to throw to is the slot receiver (B) as he comes across on his deep crossing route. Often he will be open over the deep middle. If he is not open, we look to throw the ball to the TE2 (RB), who runs a delayed curl route.

  • Eagles

Quick Set Up:

  • Hot route the runningback to pass block to the left (optional).

Pass Reads:

  • Against both man and zone coverage look for the slot receiver as he comes across the deep middle of the field on his deep crossing route.
  • The TE1, who runs the drag wheel route across the field, is a good option to throw to as he comes across the short middle of the field. He may also be an option to throw to once he breaks up the field. However, there generally is not enough time to wait for him to get open, unless your opponent rushes 3 or less defenders.
  • If neither the slot or TE1 are open, look to throw the ball to the TE2 on the delayed curl.
