A play out of the Panthers playbook that gets a lot of use against man coverage is the Singleback Panther Doubles – Slot Shake. What makes this play effective against man coverage defenses is the shake route that is run by slot (H) receiver.

Another way to get him open against Cover 3 zone coverage would be to hot route the Z receiver on a streak and then send him motion to left. Before he sets, snap the ball. The RCB will come inside to cover the Z receiver, leaving the X receiver open down the side line. |

If man coverage is called, wait for the Z receiver to break inside towards the side line before making the throw. If he gets inside position on the defender covering him, throw a hard bullet pass. If bump-n-run man coverage is called, consider sending the Z receiver in motion about 1 yard, then snap the ball. This will allow him to get off the line of scrimmage without being jammed. |
| HB | Stop | 5 | Acts like he is running a shoot route out of the backfield. However, instead of running towards the flat, he curls up. Against man coverage, look for him once he curls back towards the quarterback. If zone coverage is called along with a blitz, look for him before he curls back. |
