In this Football Video Game Tips breakdown, we thought we would take a look at 6 passing plays out of the Singleback Tight Doubles. The first play we want to show is man beater called Shallow Cross.

Quick Set Up

  • Hot route the slot receiver a slant in.
  • Hot route the tight end on a streak.
  • Send the slot receiver in motion to the left and snap the ball before he sets.

Playbooks Found In

  • Redskins
  • Texans

Each play we show this week from the Singleback Tight Doubles, we use the same motion. We send the slot receiver in motion the left and then snap the ball before he sets.

The Shallow Cross has the split end and tight end running drag routes. If man coverage is called, there is a natural pick between them. Generally one of them will get open. For this video breakdown, we are going to change things up a bit.

The defensive coverage call for each of the bump-n-run man beaters we show this, we run Nickel Normal – 2 Man Under.

To set the play up, we hot route the slot receiver on a slant to the inside.

Next, we hot route the tight end on a streak.

We do this to clear out room for the slot receiver as he comes across on his slant in.

Ideally we want to pass the ball to the slot receiver before he gets to left hash mark.

When you lab this play, watch for the nickel back to further outside of the slot receiver just after the ball is snapped.

If this happens, the slot receiver will wide open ….

… for a quick bullet pass such as shown in the image above..

Final Thoughts

In this video breakdown, we show a two other receivers we look to throw to is the flanker isn’t open. Also, this same slot motion used is this write up can be effective with other pass routes as you shall see in the Slot Corner breakdown.
