A staple passing play from the Air Coryell playbook is the 525 F Post Swing. This vertical passing play has the outside receivers (X and Z) running 15-yard deep comeback routes. The tight end runs a shallow cross (drag) underneath. That’s where 525 portion of the play’s name cam from; the two outside receives running 5 (comeback routes) and tight end 2 (shallow cross). The FB or H-Back runs a deep post over the deep middle, while the HB runs a swing route. In the image below, the offensive formation we use to show the 525 F Post Swing is the Split Backs Pro.

QB Pass Reads:

If the defense plays Cover 2 coverage, the two outside receivers will occupy the two safeties, while the tight end’s shallow cross is designed to occupy the linebackers underneath. Once the fullback breaks towards the post, he should be the receiver that quarterback looks to throw against a two deep look. If Cover 1 (man free) coverage is called, the quarterback will look to throw one of the outside receivers running the deep comeback routes. If a blitz is called, the quarterback will dump the ball off, if pressured, to the halfback, who runs a swing route.
