Singleback Doubles – RB Scat Texas Hook

In this X’s O’s Virtual Playbook breakdown, we take a look at a play we like to call Singleback Doubles – RB Scat Texas Hook. This play is designed to attack both man and zone coverage. For the breakdown, we run it against zone coverage.

As you look at the screen, notice the RB (runningback) runs an angle route, he will be the receiver the quarterback looks to throw to if his initial read, which is the Z (flanker) is not open.

Pass Routes

Here is a look at the pass routes for the Singleback Doubles – RB Scat Texas Hook.

The defensive coverage called is Cover 3 Sky with the strong safety playing the right flat (as you look at the screen) and the free safety playing the deep middle.

In the image, notice the the ball has been thrown to the RB as he breaks over the short middle of the field. The reason he is open is because the right linebacker (Will) drops in a hook zone to the H (slot receiver) and the left linebacker (Sam) drops in a hook zone to cover the Y (tight end).
