The Singleback Snugs Flip is popular compressed formation that many teams run in real football. The formation has a tight 2×2 alignment with the split end and left slot receiver lined to tight on the left side of the offensive line, while the flanker and right slot line up tight on the right side of the field. The runningback lines up about 8 yards deep behind the quarterback. For those of you who play football video games such as Madden, the Singleback Snugs Flip is an effective formation at attacking man coverage and zone coverage. Many players like to send one of the slot receivers in motion to help beat bump-n-run man coverage.

Strengths

  • Easy to pre-read the pass coverage’s before the snap. If zone coverage is called, look for at least one of the cornerbacks to line up just outside of the flanker or split end. If man coverage is called, the corners will line up across from the flanker and split end.
  • One of the better compression formations in the game.
  • Plenty of quick passing plays to attack man and zone coverage.
  • Runs to the outside are there if the back has the speed to get to the the edge.
  • A natural stack can be created by motioning one of the slot receivers to the outside. As soon as the slot receiver gets behind the flanker or split end, snap the ball. This is a great way to beat bump-n-run man coverage the slot receiver won’t be jammed at the line of scrimmage.
  • Trips formation can be created on the fly by motioning a receiver to the opposite of the field.

Weaknesses

  • With receivers lined up tighter, they bring defenders with inside; therefore making it more difficult to run the ball inside. To help improve the inside run blocking when zone coverage is called, send one of the slot receivers in motion. Once the receiver gets near the center, snap the ball to add an extra inside run blocker.
  • Inside pass protection is weaken with only the runningback in the backfield.

  1. How is this helpful? I thought there would be some plays or show me something useful. This is prima guide worthless.

    • mastdog, it’s just an explanation of the formation to give those who don’t know what it is. I don’t expect everyone to get something out of these formation breakdowns.

    • Mastdog,

If you can do better, then by all means, do so. There’s plenty of room in the tips community for tips and breakdowns! If you really wanted plays from this formation, Kobra listed several stock plays that attack a multitude of defensive looks.

  2. Mastdog, everyone has a different starting point of learning. Kobra is trying to help understand the basics before moving on to the advanced levels. What do you find wrong with this? He clearly explains the strengths and weakness’ of the formation. This is a breakdown that can be used to work on offense and defense

  3. First, I want to say that I get you want to put up basic tips, but at this point of the year most people are past that. There are plenty of basic sites on the web, I come here for some real tips.

Second, I am frustrated with this game as I have not found any real money plays and that frustration I let out on this comment. I opened it to look for some money, and got basic.

Third Kobra is a great strategist, I do not expect things such as this to fill space from him.

Last There is not one site on the web anymore, paid or free, that give the tips that they used to..I guess it’s time I adapt.

Thanks Kobra, keep up the goodwork.

    • Mastdog, I have no problem with you speaking your opinion, I was find with what you said in your first comment. The only thing I want to add is this site is different than regular Madden strategy sites as Madden is not the main focus here. Instead its about applying real football concepts to football video games, whether it be Madden, NCAA, 2K, Backbreaker, ect…. Right now Madden is the main game being played, so most of the video football game content will be for that game.

Also, I know most Madden players know what the basics are for most formations, but maybe a visitor who hasn’t played Madden or doesn’t know a lot about football wouldn’t know what the Singleback Snugs Flip formation even looks like. My goal on this site is to reach beyond the Madden community. I hope that makes sense.
